For us, Easter in the Zillertal means tradition, togetherness, and the first warm rays of sunshine in the mountains. At the Sonnenhof, we celebrate these days with a lovingly prepared Easter egg hunt in the garden and plenty of peaceful moments spent together.
On your marks, get set, go!
As soon as the first clues appear in the garden, our little guests know: Now things are getting exciting.
Little surprises are hidden among the bushes and spring flowers—and then it’s all about searching, discovering, and cheering.
Who will find something first? Who discovered the best hiding spot? And where was that one egg again?
There’s running, laughing, and whispering. As the children dart through the garden, the best conversations unfold all around them.
And before you know it, an ordinary vacation day turns into a true Easter moment.
Easter Joys
Easter Bonfires in the Zillertal
On Holy Saturday, Easter bonfires glow throughout the valley. You can see them from afar—warm points of light in the twilight. In the Zillertal, these bonfires symbolize new beginnings and community. They have been part of the Easter tradition in Tyrol for generations and are a quiet, powerful moment every year. For us at the Sonnenhof, too, the Easter bonfire is a sign: Spring has arrived.
Palm Branches – A Living Tradition
Here, palm bouquets (also called palm bunches, palm brooms, or palm stalks) are simply a part of the Easter season. And anyone who has ever seen how they’re tied knows just how much care goes into such a small arrangement. Willow catkins, boxwood, and juniper—often accented with colorful ribbons—are tied together into a tight bouquet. On Palm Sunday, the palm bouquets are carried to be blessed. The children hold the palm bouquets in their hands with visible pride.

Easter will be celebrated in mid-April 2026. The Easter holidays run from Good Friday to Easter Monday and mark the transition from winter to spring in the Zillertal.
