Hintertuxer Glacier

Hintertuxer Glacier

Ski Slope on the Hintertuxer Glacier

The Hintertuxer Glacier lies at the end of the Tuxertal, a side valley of the Zillertal in Tyrol amid Austria's Zillertal Alps. At its highest point it rises up to an alpine saddle at 3,250 metres between the peaks of the Gefrorene Wand. The glacier can be enjoyed year-round as a ski area.

The Hintertuxer Glacier promises enjoyment of the slopes throughout the year. Due to its elevation, there are generally very good snow conditions, allowing virtually all slopes and lifts to remain in constant operation. The glacier ski area also offers its own ski school for beginners and experienced skiers.

Aside from its opportunities for winter sports, the Hintertuxer Glacier also serves up panoramic vistas of the Alps from here at 3,250 metres above sea level. The area is ideal for mountain-hikers, with ample alpine huts along the way, many of which serve meals and refreshments year-round as well. One of the huts is the Spannagelhaus with the Spannagel Cave Natural Monument which, with a total length of over 10 km, is the largest cave system in the entire Central Alps. The cave entrance is located right next to the Spannagelhaus.
